Commissioned in 1902 by Thomas Dowsett Esq, Justice of the Peace for Essex, these almshouses stand as a testament to local philanthropy and Victorian legacy. Designed by the renowned local architects Burles and Harris, the Trust was established to provide a peaceful sanctuary for the community.

At the heart of our grounds stands a historic sundial, bearing the inscription:

"To the glory of God and in memory of the long and beneficent reign of Queen Victoria, these almshouses were erected by Thomas Dowsett..."
